Being environmentally conscious is an important factor of everyday life, and one of the easier ways to be more environmentally friendly is by recycling. But, materials that can be recycled are as clear cut as you might think, and that’s especially true when it comes to packaging that displays and holds most of the contents we consume and use throughout a day. At PreferPack, we take being green seriously, and we are firm believers in using environmentally friendly packaging as much as possible since packaging touches so many aspects of our lives every day. Therefore, we have compiled a list of packaging items that are recyclable to help you make decisions when choosing packaging for your own business along with being better educated when you want to be more green when buying products in the store.
Corrugated cardboard is a prominent material in many types of packaging, and corrugated cardboard is one of the most recycled products in use today. No matter the weight of the board or the printing that’s on the board, any type and thickness of cardboard can be recycled which makes it ideal for green packaging and shipping.
One thing to keep in mind while trying to be more environmentally conscious is your inner packaging. Most white and colored paper can be recycled, but materials such as tissue, wrapping and other like papers can’t be recycled along with paper that may be contaminated by oils or lotions that could have leaked during shipping. Using Styrofoam peanuts for inner packaging materials isn’t only not effective at protecting some types of products, but the peanuts will end up in the landfill unless you reuse them over and over for packaging in some way.
One of the new products that we carry at PreferPack, corrugated plastic board spools and reels, are 100% recyclable. The corrugated plastic board is lightweight much like cardboard spools but is even more durable, making the plastic spools and reels ideal for green friendly companies who sell, ship or store products like wire, rope, twine and steel. The corrugated plastic spools are not only fully recyclable, but they are durable enough to be used over many times, and they collapse completely flat for shipping back to your warehouse or office for reuse.
